In a subset of patients (> 80 years of age), the peroxisome density increased during AD-stage progression in all 4 regions analyzed, a concomitant increase in the density of catalase-positive peroxisomes was detected only in the frontal neocortex, but not in the hippocampus. Data were obtained using PEX14 or catalase immunofluorescence images running through a self-written ImageJ macro-tool for counting particles and measuring the cytosolic area. Ten individual neurons were analysed from each patient and plotted as a point on the graph.
