Silver staining (Campbell-Switzer and Gallyas) of tissue sections from (a) brainstem of multiple system atrophy (MSA-P) case 4, (b) substantia nigra of Parkinson’s disease (PD) case 5 and lumbar spinal cord of non-injected (c) homozygous (tgM83+/+) and (d) heterozygous (tgM83+/−) mice transgenic for human mutant A53T α-synuclein. Only MSA sections were Gallyas-positive. They were also stained by Campbell-Switzer, as were PD and tgM83+/+ sections. TgM83+/− sections were silver-negative. Scale bars, 50 μm
