Transcription of relevant genes associated with the IFN1 response as well as with hypoxia. Gene expression of HIF1a and MIF is significantly higher in jDM vs. control skeletal muscle tissue, while these markers are not significantly up-regulated in aDM vs. controls. Expression of TGFb however is significantly up-regulated in both groups (a). Gene expression of ISG15, MX1, OAS3, MDA5 and RIPK is significantly higher in aDM as compared to normal control muscle tissue, while conversely, these genes are not expressed at a significantly different level in jDM as compared to controls (b). Of note is that the expression of ISG15 and MX1 is also highly variable between individual aDM patients.
