An illustration of the harmonized classification system used for FTLD-TDP subtyping [3]. Cases with moderate to numerous TDP43-immunoreactive NCI and short DN predominantly in the upper cortical layers II/III were assigned a type A; cases with moderate to numerous TDP43 immunoreactive NCIs and sparse DNs across all cortical layers were assigned a type B; cases in which long dystrophic neurites were present predominantly in the upper cortices and NCIs were assigned a type C; cases with numerous lentiform NII were assigned a type D.
