Mechanical excision and repositioning of a part of the caudate-putamen by the blast. Shown are diascopic bright/dark field images of Vibratome sections from a 1×–acute exposed rat. Sections in panels A-B are 500 μm apart from those in panels C-D. White arrows indicate a region of the caudate-putamen that was repositioned into the insular cortex. The lesion also disrupted the external capsule (black arrows in B and D). Note that the repositioned tissue appears to have been reoriented by 180o compared to its likely original position. Panels E and F show comparable sections from a control brain. Scale bar: 1 mm, A, C and E; 300 μm, B, D and F.
